At the turn of the century the globally active committee DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) has presented the comprehensive standard MHP (Multimedia Home Platform). MHP has defined the interfaces between all components. However, due primarily to the high degree of complexity and associated expense for the participating companies, MHP has not succeeded in achieving the desired degree of implementation.
In Great Britain a platform has been applied successfully for a long time on the basis of the streamlined MHEG standard.
In the second decade of this century, the iTV landscape is dominated by the international standard HbbTV. This standard covers a wide range of functionalities including media synchronisation and connection to mobile devices.
